SUN, March 23, 7 PM | Schapiro Theatre, Columbia University
Actor and director Nicky Wolcz received the Distinguished Faculty Award from Columbia University. He is one of the most beloved professors at Columbia, also one of the most respected authorities in the world on the Commedia Dell'Arte. Niky Wolcz developed a method of working with the actor that was extremely well received by the professionals. Invited by RCINY, Nicky Wolcz gathered former and actual students for creating the first public performance and demonstration of his method in Commedia dell'Arte. New York has been, for the last 30 years, the most important scene of the revival of Commedia dell'Arte in contemporary theatre - Nicky Wolcz's contribution to this revival is put on show at the Schapiro Theatre of Columbia University, on March 22, at 8 PM.
The show will be recorded on a DVD providing samples of the Wolcz method, as well as examples of commedia performance. Professor Wolcz is currently working on a book on Commedia dell'Arte, that will include: history and analysis of this classical form of theatre, a practical guide for actors, and the demonstration DVD.
