The bilateral cultural project launched in 2023 continues this year in the form of an alternating annual exchange. After last year’s program was hosted in Japan with the participation of a delegation from Romania, this year’s events are taking place in our country, featuring a Japanese delegation of over 20 musicians from Shizuoka. In this context, ICR Tokyo is supporting the Shizuoka-Romania Cultural Exchange Association’s initiative to organize a series of musical events, an effort carried out with the support of the Embassy of Japan in Romania.
The tour will kick off on September 19 in Iași, where the Japanese artists will perform a special concert of Japanese music in collaboration with the “George Enescu” National University of Music and the Japanese Cultural Center at “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University. On this occasion, the delegation will be officially welcomed and will pay a courtesy visit to the Iași City Hall. Afterward, the musicians will travel to Maramureș, where, on September 22, they will organize an interactive music workshop at “Babeș-Bolyai” University’s Sighetu Marmației branch, in collaboration with the institution’s Japanese Cultural Center. During this workshop, the Romanian public and students will have the rare opportunity to touch and try out traditional instruments, such as Taiko drums and stringed instruments specific to Japanese folklore.
In addition to their artistic activities, the delegation members will pay a courtesy visit to the Sighetu Marmației City Hall, and the host institution will offer the guests a full sightseeing tour by bus in Maramureș so they can discover the beauty of the region.
This tour is not a one-off event, but rather a continuation of the success from the spring of 2024, when the same association organized a memorable traditional drum concert in Cluj-Napoca and Iași.
