Amalia Takes a Deep Breath (Amalia respiră adânc) by Alina Nelega

With: Cristina Casian
Directed by: Mariana Cămărășan
Stage design: Alexandra Penciuc

'Amalia Takes a Deep Breath' tells the story of a woman living her life in communist Romania, who gets to a new era of freedom that proves to be confusing. We see her through the different stages of her life, on a sad and dark path: the little girl, happy to be away from her German governess or the piano lessons, the experimental adolescent, the mother, the old woman. But all the traumas she suffers do not transform her into a self-pitiful person; instead, she remains fantastically courageous and charmingly candid throughout.

In 2007, Alina Nelega was awarded the European Author Prize in Heidelberg for this play and, for her role in the show, Cristina Casian received the UNITER Debut Award in 2008.

Duration: 75 minutes (no interval)
The show will be performed in Romanian with English surtitles.

The Beauty of Venice in September (Frumos e în septembrie la Veneția) by Teodor Mazilu

With: Oana Pellea and Mircea Rusu
Directed by: Mariana Cămărășan
Stage design: Vladimir Turturică

Grande dame Oana Pellea returns to the British capital in the company of Bucharest’s National Theatre actor Mircea Rusu, bringing to the stage of Leicester Square Theatre a new romantic comedy by one of the most prominent Romanian playwrights of the 20th Century.

An unexpected love story unfolds right where we are accustomed to only seeing the shortcomings, in a reality that only dreams can make bearable.

“In love with the very fact of being in love, millions of people dream of Venice. The waves of the Adriatic strike against the brick shores of the island. The lamp posts are lit one by one, and the incredible music of Lucio Dalla is played on a jukebox. Everything is surreally beautiful. In the mirage of absolute romance, a woman and a man rediscover each other, as they never imagined it could be.” – director Mariana Cămărășan

Duration: 75 minutes (no interval)
The show will be performed in Romanian with English surtitles.

Adrian Naidin in Concert

Melding, in a novel formula, soulful Romanian folklore with dynamic jazz sounds, and his unmistakable voice with the rich sound of cello and delightful piano tunes, Adrian Naidin’s music brings a little piece of Heaven to Camden.

“There is no music without love and there is no love without forgiveness.” - Adrian Naidin
