Masca, the renowned pantomime company from Bucharest, is taking to the UK for an extensive tour as part of our anniversary programme, celebrating 100 years since the unification of all Romanian provinces. The centrepiece of their performances is a new stunning performance, entitled 'Us', which tells the story of the Great Union through characters taken from popular culture. The tour also features shows based on the company’s trademark "living statues".
Founded and managed by legendary actor-director Mihai Mălaimare, Masca is the only Romanian company specialised in mime, gesture and physical theatre. The shows are suitable for family audiences and the characters are presented through powerful masks and costumes, silent comedy and unrivalled theatricality that together make them one of Romania’s finest theatrical exports.
The tour is organised by ArtReach in partnership with the General Council of Bucharest and the Romanian Cultural Institute.
