Enescu Society February Concert @ ICR London

     

Celebrated violist Yuko Inoue and pianist Kathron Sturrock team up for a recital in the established Enescu Society concert series.

Winner of the 17th Budapest International Viola Competition, Yuko Inoue has performed as soloist throughout Europe and Japan with many orchestras, including the Hungarian State Philharmonic Orchestra, F. Liszt Chamber Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and with such eminent musicians as Gidon Kremer, Sir Charles Groves, György Pauk, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Heinrich Schiff and Thomas Zehetmair. Yuko Inoue was born in Hamamatsu, Japan and studied with Nobuko Imai at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. After graduating with Distinction, Miss Inoue was appointed principal viola of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, a position she held for three years before returning to live in London. She is in great demand as a soloist and chamber musician, performing and recording frequently with Britain's most eminent string quartets and chamber ensembles and in festivals such as Lockenhaus, Kuhmo, Cheltenham, Bath and Aldeburgh. She is a member of Fibonacci Sequence Ensemble based in London. One of her CD, Romanze - the romantic viola, with pianist Kathron Sturrock, was voted one of Classic CD magazine's Choices of the Month in August 2000 and was also praised with similar enthusiasm from The Strad, Gramophone and AMAZON. She has released another CD, also with K. Sturrock, J. S. Bach: Three Viola da Gamba Sonatas and the Chaconne in late 2006. Miss Inoue has appeared as guest principal with several orchestras including the Philharmonia Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and the London Sinfonietta. She is a professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London and gives masterclasses throughout Europe and Japan.

Kathron Sturrock was twice the winner for the best pianist at the Sofia International Opera Competition. After these awards she was invited to work for several years with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf in her Master Classes throughout Europe. She is a founder member and Artistic Director of the chamber ensemble The Fibonacci Sequence, and records frequently for BBC Radio 3. As a soloist she has appeared with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra, making her Proms debut in 1994 playing Alan Rawsthorne's Concerto for 2 pianos with Piers Lane. She has recorded CDs for Hyperion, Chandos, Gamut, Pickwick, Sain, ASV, Black Box, Quartz and Deux-Elles. In September 2003 she joined the Keyboard Faculty at the Royal College of Music, London.

It is an honour for the Enescu Society to host these two exciting artists, both professors at UK's top Conservatoires. And, finally, after an entire season of pursuing other Enescu works, the time has come for the celebrated "Concert Piece" for viola and piano to be presented!

The Enescu Society Concert Season runs from October to July, on the first Thursday of each month. The concert stage of the Institute aims to host outstanding musicians performing George Enescu's music alongside an international repertoire.

The Enescu Society is a project of the Romanian Cultural Institute London under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Margarita of Romania.
