Sonorități estice la London Jazz Festival

Making their long-awaited London Jazz Festival debut, internationally acclaimed quartet 'Arifa' is preparing to delight the capital's jazz aficionados with their sumptuous, thrilling and alchemical sound, a fusion of Eastern and Western musical influences.  Simple yet powerful melodies with hints of the Balkans and Anatolia expand through intuitive improvisations into brilliant jazz scores, which then are lightly blended with electronics to deliver intensely personal moods that linger long in memory.

The 'Arifa' Quartet brings together musicians from Romania, Holland/Turkey, Greece and Germany and is made up of Alex Simu (Romania) - saxophone, clarinets; Franz von Chossy (Germany) - piano; Michalis Cholevas (Greece) - tarhu, ney; and Sjahin During (Holland/Turkey) - percussion.

'Arifa combines the musical heritage of Babylon, Istanbul, Bucharest and Amsterdam with electronics and contemporary improvisations. The result transcends the sum of its parts and is a journey far into the realm of imagination'. - Songlines Magazine
