Synopsis: Three days after the Charlie Hebdo terror attack, Lary and his wife arrive at a family gathering to commemorate his deceased father. As the guests wait for the priest, an argument starts over the September 11 attacks. Just as things seem to be calming down, an unexpected guest exacerbates the situation, leading to an operatic settling of accounts.
In his fifth feature, Cristi Puiu (The Death of Mr. Lazarescu) presents a perceptive portrait of the Romanian middle class through nearly three hours in a tumultuous Bucharest apartment. Puiu confronts a range of characters and opinions, using lively camerawork and accurate performances to create a demanding yet rewarding masterpiece.
Since its first edition in 1984, and throughout the 1980s, the Jerusalem International Film Festival's character matured into its present form: the festival is ten days long, screening between 150-200 films in a number of programs: Panorama, showcasing the best of international feature films; Documentary Films, dedicated to international documentary film-making, The Jewish Experience, dealing with issues of Jewish identity and history, In the Spirit of Freedom, concerned with questions of freedom and human rights, Television Dramas, New Directors, and of course, Israeli Film.
Beyond its contribution to Israeli film, the Jerusalem International Film Festival remains one of the few platforms that present the world's finest contemporary cinematic trends to its local audiences. Over the years, the Festival has screened film debuts by Wong Kar Wai, Tsai Ming-liang, John Sayles, Jim Jarmusch, Stephen Frears, Spike Lee, Quentin Tarantino, Neil Jordan, John Lasseter and other names that have turned into the masters of our time. Many of these directors' films became regulars at the Festival, and personal favorites with the Israeli audience.
