The Presence of Memory Romanian artist Caius Rotaru' sculpture exhibition at the Bible Museum in Tel Aviv
Opening: October 5, starting 7 pm / 16 Rothschild Blvd.
During October 5 - November 2, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv organizes the exhibition "The Presence of Memory" of the artist Caius Rotaru. The project is dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust and proposes a visual reflection on this tragedy of the humanity and on the need to preserve the memory of a unique episode in human history.
Twelve wood sculpture pieces will be presented, as well as a series of original photography. The concept of the exhibition is, in the author's words: "the symbolism of the box as a shelter – objects that structure a territory of pain and contain, like some muted resonance boxes, a choir of sounds waiting to be awaken, to be brought back to life"; a symbolism meant to prevent forgetfulness and increase the power of remembrance.
"The Holocaust is not my personal nightmare, but as an artist and intellectual I am compelled to get involved, I cannot possibly stay indifferent or be passive in front of death or genocide", says Casius Rotaru in the foreword to the exhibition.
The space chosen for the exhibition, the Bible Museum in Tel Aviv (Beit Dizengoff), is a place endowed with deep significance, where on May 14, 1948 the Declaration of the establishment of the modern State of Israel (The Declaration of Independence) was read.
Caius Rotaru, born 1969 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, graduated from the Bucharest University of Arts (sculpture department, 1999) and is a member of the Union of plastic artists in Romania (since 2000). His biography includes personal exhibitions in Romania, group exhibitions, symposia and other such artistic manifestations in Romania and abroad (among which: the International Sculpture Symposium in Arandjelovac, former Yugoslavia; the Francophone Games, Ottawa-Hull, Canada; the Sculpture Symposium in Mont-Dauphin, France).
Speakers at the opening of the exhibition: dr. Gina Pană, director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv, Zeev Schwartz, president of H.O.R. (Hitachdut Olei Romania beIsrael), Sara Einik, visual artist and Caius Rotaru, sculptor.
