The Presence of Memory. Romanian artist Caius Rotaru’ sculpture exhibition at Matnas Rosh Pina. 8-22 November 2011

The Presence of Memory
Romanian artist Caius Rotaru' sculpture exhibition at Matnas Rosh Pina
Opening: November 8, 16:30 hrs.

The project is dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust and proposes a visual reflection on this tragedy of the humanity and on the need to preserve the memory of a unique episode in human history.
Twelve wood sculpture pieces will be presented, as well as a series of drawings. The concept of the exhibition is, in the author's words: "the symbolism of the box as a shelter – objects that structure a territory of pain and contain, like some muted resonance boxes, a choir of sounds waiting to be awaken, to be brought back to life"; a symbolism meant to prevent forgetfulness and increase the power of remembrance.
"The Holocaust is not my personal nightmare, but as an artist and intellectual I am compelled to get involved, I cannot possibly stay indifferent or be passive in front of death or genocide", says Casius Rotaru in the foreword to the exhibition.

The project was shown at the Bible Museum in Tel Aviv: http://www.icr.ro/the_presence_of_memory.
