Join us at the Romanian Cultural Institute for a memorable encounter with HRH Crown Princess Margareta of Romania, one of the most revered leaders of the Romanian civic society and daughter of His Majesty King Michael I of Romania. The address will discuss the role of monarchy in the making of modern Romania and will be followed by a Q&A. With introductory remarks by HE Dan Mihalache, the Ambassador of Romania to the Court of St. James' s, Mr Andrew Popper, Honorary Master of the Household of His Majesty King Michael I of Romania and Mr. Dorian Branea, the Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in London.
The event also marks the opening of the photo exhibition "The Royal Family of Romania in Pictures" by Daniel Angelescu, official photographer of the Royal House.
A stand of books on Romanian monarchy's past and present is provided courtesy to Cărţi Româneşti. HRH Crown Princess Margareta will kindly offer her signature on selected volumes.

Crown Princess Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown is the eldest daughter of Their Majesties King Michael I and Queen Anne of Romania. She was born in exile, in Switzerland, and was educated in Italy, England, Scotland and Geneva, where she completed the French Baccalaureate.
In 1974, she graduated from Edinburgh University with a Master of Arts (MA) Honours degree in Sociology, Political Science and Public International Law. Following university, Crown Princess Margareta worked for a number of British universities, specialising in medical and public health policy. From 1977 to the late eighties, she joined the United Nations System, where she focused on developing health policy recommendations and preventive policy projects. She worked at WHO, UNFPA, FAO and the IFAD.
With the demise of the communist regime in 1989, Crown Princess Margareta travelled to Romania for the first time in January 1990 to devote herself to her country. Since then, the Crown Princess has been involved in a series of public, international and official events. In 1990, together with King Michael I, she founded the Princess Margareta of Romania Foundation to help and support members of community in greatest need. The charity and its work has been her prime focus.
In 1997 and 2002, the Crown Princess accompanied her father, King Michael I, on official tours to support Romania's accession into NATO and the EU. In the last 25 years, the Crown Princess represented her family and country in public engagements abroad. Her Royal Highness is very much present in Romanian public life, frequently visiting communities in the country and the Republic of Moldova.
Crown Princess Margareta is President of the Romanian Red Cross, Patron of The Duke of Edinburgh International Award Romania, President of the Romanian Athletic Foundation, Patron of the Enescu Society of London, 'Transylvania Fest' Romania and of Transylvania College in Cluj, among others.
In June 2005, a school in Bucharest took the name of 'Princess Margareta Secondary School'.
