We are delighted to host the anniversary recital of acclaimed Romanian violinist and professor Sherban Lupu, distinguished member of the Enescu Society of London. The great virtuoso, who turns 60 at the end of June, will grace our stage together with Tom Blach, in an unique demonstration of youthful vigour and musical brilliance.

Sherban Lupu studied at the Bucharest Conservatory and in London at the Guildhall School of Music with Yfrah Neaman. He took lessons and master classes with legendary violinists Yehudi Menuhin, Henryk Szering and Nathan Milstein. He is currently professor of violin at the University of Illinois and has been artistic director of the Gubbio Festival in Italy and associate concertmaster of the San Francisco Opera. Lupu specializes in the music of his native Romania and Eastern Europe, as well as the virtuoso romantic repertoire. Solo appearances include The Kennedy Center, Gstaad Festival, Aldeburgh Festival, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elisabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall, St. John's Smith Square and Carnegie Hall. Since December 2005 Serban Lupu is the Artistic Director of the George Enescu Society of the United States.
Tom Blach studied with John Barstow and Yu Chun Yee at the Royal College of Music where he was a major prizewinner. Since his highly acclaimed London debut in 1987, under the auspices of the Park Lane Group, he has performed extensively in collaboration with many of today's finest artists. He has appeared on television on the BBC, in France, Spain, Germany and Russia, and on radio worldwide, and given recitals at the National Auditorium in Madrid, The Seoul arts centre, The Auditorium du Louvre and Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Herkulesaal in Munich, the Royal Festival, Queen Elizabeth and Wigmore Halls in London, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, St. David's Hall in Cardiff and at festivals including those of Bath, Brighton, Newbury, Harrogate, Swansea, Chichester, Colmar, Palma, Mecklenburg and Schleswig-Holstein.
