Our celebration of Romanian-American and Romanian-Canadian literary creativity, overwhelmingly represented by female authors, comes to an end after two rich seasons featuring no less than 27 authors. Co-curated with author and academic Cristina A. Bejan, Romanian Women Voices in North America turned the spotlight on this phenomenal wave of creativity and brought together the largest group of Romanian-American and Romanian-Canadian women writers ever assembled in cyberspace.
Felicia Mihali is a writer, translator, and publisher. Born in Romania, she lives in Montréal. She studied French, English, Chinese and Dutch and specialized in postcolonial literature and history. Her first novel, Le Pays du fromage, was published in 2002 by XYZ Editeurs, followed by six others written in French. In 2012 she published her first book in English, The Darling of Kandahar, which was inspired by a news item reported in Maclean’s magazine. The book was nominated by Canada Reads in 2013 as one of the best novels in Quebec. In April 2021 she published simultaneously in English and French a novel that she wrote in the Canadian Far North while teaching French in Nunavut Territory. Pineapple Kisses in Iqaluit / Une nuit d’amour à Iqaluit was praised in French Canadian media as a must-read book of the year. She is now writing and translating from French, English and Romanian, and she is running Hashtag Publishing House based in Montréal.
