Series of lectures by sociologist Ioana Popa in Prague and in Bratislava

Between April 11-14, 2016, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Prague announces the participation of sociologist Ioana Popa in the Visegrad Forum program, organized by CEFRES (French Research and Social Sciences Centre in Prague), in cooperation with the Department of South Slavonic and Balkan Studies of the Charles University in Prague and the Institute for World Literature of the Slovak Science Academy in Bratislava (coordinator: Libuša Vajdová). 

Ms. Ioana Popa will give lectures both in Prague and Bratislava according to the following agenda:

Cold War Translations: Actors and Practices of Book Circulations Beyond the Iron Curtain and their Reception in France.

The event will be held in French, with Czech translation, between 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., in the Conference Room of the French Institute in Prague, Štěpánská 35, 5th floor.  The lecture will be followed by discussions. Ms. Jovanka Šotolová, French Literature translator from the Department of Translation Studies of the Charles University will be the special guest of the event.

Translating Under Duress. A Sociological Approach to the Transfers of Central European Literatures in France during the Cold War.

The event will be held in French, between 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., at the French Institute in Bratislava. Ms. Libuša Vajdová, from the Institute for World Literature of the Slovak Science Academy in Bratislava, will also give a lecture.

The Institutionalization and International Construction of Area Studies in France during the Cold War. Insights from the Russian and Eastern European Program of the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes 6th Section.

The event will be held in English, between 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and it will consist of a seminar from the monthly series held by the Institute for World Literature of the Slovak Science Academy in Bratislava.

Translation Routes: a Sociology of Literary Transfers between East and West during the Cold War.

The event will be held between 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., at the Charles University in Prague, as an international conference with the title "Translation Between Languages, Cultures and History", during which Ms. Ioana Popa will hold a 30 minutes lecture as the first speaker. The main language of the event will be Romanian, but there will also be lectures in both French and Czech.  Moreover, Ms. Libuša Vajdová and Ms. Libuše Valentov will be present at the event.
