The Romanian Cultural Institute in London, in partnership with the Embassies of Romania and the Republic of Moldova in the United Kingdom, invite you to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a profound and thought-provoking event dedicated to the memory of those who suffered during one of history’s darkest chapters.
The event features an engaging discussion exploring the deportations of Jewish and Roma people to Transnistria in the company of prominent professorsMarius Turda, Director of the Centre for Medical Humanities, Oxford Brookes University andIgor Cașu, Director of the National Archives Agency of the Republic of Moldova. The conversation will be chaired by Professor Dan Stone, Director of the Holocaust Research Institute at Royal Holloway, University of London. Opening remarks by H.E. Laura Popescu, the Ambassador of Romania to the United Kingdom and H.E. Ruslan Bolbocean, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the United Kingdom.
As part of the programme, we will be screening“Portrait of a Holocaust Survivor: Adolfina Regenbogen” (2020), courtesy of the Romanian public broadcaster TVR. This moving short documentary directed by Teodora Drăgoi and Adrian Cioflâncă, offers an intimate portrayal of a survivor’s life and legacy in the context of the tragedy of 600 Jews in the ghetto of Mostovoi, Transnistria, on Romania's Eastern border with the Soviet Union.
