Join us at St. James’s Church Piccadilly for a recital full of verve presented by a duo made of violinist Ionel Manciu and pianist Kaoru Wada. The pairing of Enescu and Poulenc, two great modernist explorers, is a rare treat while Enescu’s ‘Impressions d’enfance’ remains an all-time favourite.

Moldovan musician Ionel Manciu made his official debut at the age of ten with the Chisinau Chamber Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist with, amongst others, the National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and National Chamber Orchestra in Chisinau, the Philharmonic Orchestras in Bucharest and Iași, the Lvov Chamber Orchestra, and the Pori Chamber Orchestra in Finland. Ionel Manciu has won numerous prizes at international competitions like “Eugen Coca” in Moldova, “Remember Enescu”, “Paul Constantinescu” and “Ion Voicu” in Romania, “Mihail Strikharj” in Ukraine, “Nedyalka Simeonova” in Bulgaria, “Delphic Games” in both Moldova and Belarus, “M.A.G.I.C” and “Vasco Abadjiev” in Bulgaria. He has appeared on many prestigious stages across Europe among which Casa de Musica in Porto, the Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall and Milton Court in London, the Mozarteum Concert Hall in Salzburg, and the Romanian Atheneum in Bucharest.He is currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the guidance of professor David Takeno and with the generous support of the Guildhall School Trust, The Countess of Munster Musical Trust and Help Musician UK. Ionel Manciu plays on a Giovanni Pistucci Violin generously loaned by the Harrison Frank Foundation.
Born in Japan, Kaoru Wada is a London-based pianist with a notable career in performing and teaching. She trained as a solo pianist at the Royal Northern College with Mark Ray, Dina Parakhina and Alexander Melnikov, followed by studies at the Musik Hochschule in Munich, Germany as a prestigious DAAD scholar with the late Prof. Franz Massinger. She currently holds a Fellowship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she was awarded the Accompanist Prize in 2014 and the Paul Hamburger Prize in 2015. Wada also teaches second study piano at the Guildhall. Recent performances include a BBC 3 broadcast for RPS as well as a Proms Extra concert. She has performed at the Wigmore Hall, the Gewandhaus, Barbican Hall and St Martins-in-the-Fields. Wada is a piano tutor at Eton College in Windsor and City University.
