Romanian playwright Mihaela Michailov won a place on the Royal Court Theatre's prestigious International Residency programme. During the summer of 2009 she will join a team of British & international artists, running workshops, holding presentations and lectures. Mihaela is an outstanding dramatist who has been working with the Royal Court for two years now; she took part in the workshop organized by the Royal Court Theatre in Bucharest in 2007.
Considered by the Royal Court selection board as an "exceptional dramatist with a remarkable evolution", Mihaela Michailov is an art critic and playwright. She collaborates with many publications such as: Suplimentul de cultura, Sapte Seri, Noua Literatura, aLtitudini and is author of several plays including Interzis sub 18 ani, performed in 2008 at the Teatrul Foarte Mic in Bucharest. The play Mi-e frica won her a drama scholarship from the program dramAcum 3 in 2006 and in 2007 she won the UNITER award for the Best Play of the Year - Complexul Romania, performed in 2008 at the I.L. Caragiale National Theatre in Bucharest. Since 2006 she has been running drama workshops at Romanian theatre festivals and in 2008 she took part in the dance workshops at the ImPulsTanz - Vienna International Dance Festival; she was also a jury member of the Prix Jardin d'Europe 2008.
Mihaela Michailov is currently doing a PhD at the National University of Theatre and Cinema Arts in Bucharest. Since 2008 she is member of the selection committee of the Timisoara Romanian Drama Festival.
Mihaela Michailov's residency at the Royal Court is supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute.
