Anamaria Marinca @ Young Vic

Romanian film actress Anamaria Marinca performs 4:48 Psychosis - Sarah Kane's intensely lyrical exploration of emotional breakdown, directed by the distinguished French director Christian Benedetti.

This new production reunites the captivating actress with the pioneering Benedetti who, in 2001, was the first to stage 4:48 Psychosis in France before directing Anamaria Marinca in a Romanian production of the same play. This new production has been specially created for the Young Vic.

Spiked with inky black humour, Sarah Kane's fifth and last play is set in the hinterland between reality and imagination, between dreaming and waking. The Marinca/Benedetti interpretation highlights the themes of the human capacity for love and the profound quest for human connection that lies at the heart of Kane's work. Following her death in 1999, Kane has become one of the most frequently performed playwrights world wide.

Anamaria Marinca won a BAFTA for her performance in the C4 drama Sex Traffic. She came to international attention when she played the lead in Cristian Mungiu's highly controversial film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, which won the Palme d'Or at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for a Golden Globe. Recently she appeared alongside Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt in the BBC TV film Five Minutes of Heaven and in Hotel Babylon (BBC1).

Christian Benedetti is Artistic Director of Le Théâtre-Studio Alfortville. He is well known in France for his ground-breaking productions of exceptional contemporary playwrights including Edward Bond, Sarah Kane and Mark Ravenhill.

The Romanian Cultural Institute is pleased to team up with the Young Vic and support Anamaria Marinca's performance.
