Concertino pastorale: Paula Popa and Naiades Ensemble

The Romanian Cultural Institute in London will continue the concert series Young Romanian musicians in London, hosted in previous years by St Martin-in-the-Fields.

The series promotes the outstanding musical abilities of young Romanian artists (students or graduates of the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, etc).

The concert is given by Romanian harpist Paula Popa and Naiades Ensemble (Eilana Eisen, Jem Murraham, Nadya Larsen, Mike Wigram, Helen Manente, Emily Worthington). They will play works by David Watkins, Ravel, Felicia Donceanu, Claude Debussy, Albert Roussel, Jouis Rohozinski and Sergiu Natra. Click here to see the full programme (Microsoft Word document).

Award winning harpist Paula Popa has performed in front of HRH The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Princess Marina Sturza of Romania, Lord Eddie George (former governor of the Bank of England) to name but a few. In early 2006 she formed the Naiades Ensemble. Its members are all recent graduates or current Masters Students at the Royal College of Music. A professional and dynamic group, Naiades' Ensembles members share a keen interest and passion about repertoire written for this rarely heard combination. This has lead to the performance and discovery of new pieces and the commission of two new works. Having won the prestigious 'Fossat Award' earlier this year, Naiades's Ensemble's future plans include performances at the Landmark Concert Series, Louth Concert Society, Billericay Arts Association and the National Gallery.
