„Radu Stanca” National Theater at Shanghai Modern Drama Valley Festival 2023

Between April 29th and May 5th, 2023, ICR Beijing supported the participation of the "Radu Stanca" National Theater from Sibiu with the play "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf," directed by Andrei and Andreea Grosu, as part of this year's edition of the Shanghai Modern Drama Valley theater festival. The three performances by TNRS in Shanghai took place, the first on May 2nd, and the other two on the following day, May 3rd, 2023.

The three-act play, "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf," represents the staging of the difficult relationship between two couples of different generations, one young and the other 50 years old. In the modern interpretation by the "Radu Stanca" National Theater from Sibiu, the performance aims to answer some rhetorical but highly relevant questions: Who's afraid of family relationships? Who's afraid of marital relationships? Who's afraid of women and men who are too tired of life? Who's afraid of surface niceties? Who's afraid of sincerity? Who's afraid of "innocent" games? Who's afraid of Martha and George? Or their guests, Nick and Honey, who don't even suspect the night that awaits them? Who's afraid of mothers and fathers? Or absent sons? Of alcohol-drenched nighttime encounters? Or the incisive remarks that cut to the bone?

The three performances took place under favorable conditions, gathering an audience of over 1,500 spectators, including many practitioners in the performing arts, directors, and actors, who expressed positive impressions about the performance.
