The Haifa International Film Festival will take place between September 19-28, 2021 in various cultural locations in Haifa. The international program will include a record number of Romanian films, screened in Israel with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv.

Maria, Dan and Ilinca take part in their regular end-of-the-year humanitarian trip, driving an SUV along the mountain dirt roads of the Romanian village of Întregalde. They help a lonely old man reach a sawmill, where he supposedly works. But when their car gets stuck in a ditch in the woods, the sawmill proves to be abandoned, and they’re forced to spend the night with the senile old man, their ideas about empathy and helpfulness are challenged.
Romanian auteur Radu Muntean’s new film is an incisive, sarcastic and suspenseful drama about the limits of generosity.

Alina Grigore’s feature debut comes to Haifa directly from its world premiere at the San Sebastian festival. Grigore started researching the topic for the gripping psychological drama more than a decade ago, when she wrote short stories exploring the challenges faced by young Romanian women in rural areas.

Winner of the Golden Bear for best film at the 2021 Berlin Film Festival, the new film by Romanian New Wave auteur Radu Jude is an intelligent, satirical triptych. The film was inspired by a newspaper article and the ensuing fierce discussions between Jude with his friends.
The Haifa International Film Festival, the leading cinematic event in Israel, was founded in 1983 as the first international film festival in Israel.
