Romanian Artist Participating at the Beijing International Art Biennale

Yesterday, September 24th took place the Opening Ceremony of the 6th Beijing International Art Biennale. The Biennale is going to be opened until October 15th at the National Art Museum of China. This year theme is “Memory and Dream”.
The opening ceremony, which was held in the great entrance hall of the National Art Museum of China, was attended by foreign and Chinese artists, diplomats, representatives of the Chinese Artists Association, representatives of the Beijing City Hall, and representatives of the media. At 12 pm, after the opening ceremony ended the gates were opened for the public.
From one edition to another the number of participants has grown steadily, at the first edition were participants from 45 countries and at the 6th edition this year participants came from 96 countries and regions. For this year’s edition were sent over 6000 works, of which only 685 works were selected to be exhibited. Of the 96 countries and regions participating Armenia, Canada, Ecuador, South Africa, South-east Asia and Chile have special exhibitions.
The works of eight Romanian artists were selected by the Biennale international jury. These are: Laedo dy Andrei Nagy, Neoclassical by Catalin Balescu, Baby-Blues by Madalina Adriana Gheorghe Tanase, Ancestral Memory by Gabriel Sitaru, Contemplation by Ileana Stefanescu, Yellow River by Silvia Traistaru, Dream by Serban Teodor Vrabiescu and Where are they who aren’t anymore by Mihai Topescu. A work or Romanian-born American artist Paul Mircea Goreniuc was also selected by the organisers. The artists Ileana Stefanescu, Silvia Traistaru, Mihai Topescu and Serban Teodor Vtabiescu attended the opening ceremony and are going to attend the other events proposed by the organizers, such as the Biennale Symposium, where artist from all over the world have the opportunity to find the latest news about art and the visit to the Contemporanny Art Museum of China, where foreign artist have the opportunity to come into contact with the works of contemporary Chinese artists. The four Romanian artists were supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute.
