"March 9, “Mărțișor” Workshop for Kids"

The Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in Beijing is organizing a Mărțișor Crafting Workshop for Chinese children on Saturday, March 9, 2024, starting at 2:00 PM, at the Romanian Cultural Institute's headquarters in Galaxy SOHO. Chinese children, along with Romanian children, will learn more about Romanian culture and traditions on the verge of spring and will learn how to make mărțișoare.

The mărțișor is an ancient Romanian tradition celebrated all over the country, every year on March 1st. The name Mărțișor is a diminutive of March and is meant to mark the arrival of spring. This holiday is characterized by unique traditions, including symbolic arts and crafts. In this sense, we are preparing a workshop to make traditional Romanian mărțișoare, which the students can take home.

At the opening, the children will watch an introductory video material about the significance of mărțișor in Romania, learn a few words in Romanian, and listen to/watch Romanian songs for children ("Vine, vine, primăvara", "Hai la joc", "La oglindă", etc.). China Postal Savings Bank, the sponsors of this event, will also offer the children a small buffet and small gifts. At the end, students will receive a diploma from ICR Beijing - Romanian Cultural Center, as "Little Cultural Ambassadors."
