Opera Royal of Wallonie-Liège is organizing the 1st International Opera Conductor Competition from 18th to 26th of August 2017.
This competition is exceptional because it is the first time that a competition devoted to the Conducting Direction is entirely dedicated to the Opera.
This competition, open to all candidates born after the 1st of January 1982, will take place over several legs:
- Elimination Round (conducting): Friday 18th of August 2017 and Saturday 19th of August 2017
- Final eighth round (musical on piano with soloists): Sunday 20th of August 2017 and Monday 21th August 2017
- Quarter-final round (conducting with soloists, choirs and mastery): Tuesday 22nd of August 2017
- Semi-final round (conducting with soloists, choirs and Maîtrise): Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th of August 2017
- Finale (conducting with soloists, choirs and mastery): Saturday 26th of August 2017
Throughout the competition, the candidates will have the chance to direct the Orchestra, the Choirs and the Maîtrise of Opera Royal of Wallonie-Liège and a pleiad of soloists in a varied repertoire (Rossini, Mozart, Verdi, Lalo , Weber, Puccini).
An international jury, composed of prominent figures recognized on
the international lyrical stage (theater directors, agents, singers),
will be soon revealed.
All competitions will be free to the public.
First prize winner will be rewarded by 10,000 euros and will also be offered a contract to lead an opera production at the Opera Royal of Wallonie-Liège.
