The Enescu Society in London has invited the internationally-acclaimed ConTempo Quartet to give a recital in this established concert series.

The ConTempo String Quartet was formed in 1995, when its members were studying at the Music University in Bucharest. The Quartet has since toured throughout Europe, Asia, Canada and Israel, and since September 1999, at the invitation of Sigmund Nissel from the Amadeus Quartet, it has held the Chamber Music Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music in London, both to study and also to work with younger student chamber music ensembles.

Recognised as one of the world's top string quartets, ConTempo has worked with many celebrated quartets, including the Emerson, Amadeus, Alban Berg, Hagen and Tokyo quartets.

The ConTempo String Quartet became Galway's first Ensemble-in-Residence in January 2003.

The Enescu Society was established by the Romanian Cultural Institute in 2007 under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Margarita of Romania.

The Institute runs the Enescu Society Concerts Season from October to June, on the first Thursday of each month. The concert stage of the Institute hosts outstanding musicians performing George Enescu's music alongside an international repertoire.
