This year's first concert in the 'Enescu Concerts' series offers an exceptional encounter with two brilliant Romanian musicians, Remus Azoiței (violin) and Eduard Stan (piano), the supreme experts in George Enescu's chamber work. With a programme that highlights the manifold connections between Romanian and German classical music, the duo’s hypnotic presence will prove once more why they are considered to have established the golden standard of Enescu’s interpretation.

Described in The Strad as “an uninhibited virtuoso, with soul and fabulous technique”, the Romanian-born violinist Remus Azoiţei has been a featured soloist of numerous prestigious European ensembles, including the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National de Belgique and Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of London. He has performed concertos under renowned conductors such as Lawrence Foster, Dimitri Kitaenko, Michael Sanderling, and Gabriel Chmura.
His recent engagements have taken him to venues around the world including Carnegie Hall / Weill Recital Hall and Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center in New York, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Salle Cortot Paris, Konzerthaus Berlin, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and Wigmore Hall in London, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Konzerthaus Vienna, Palais de Beaux Arts and Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, and National Concert Hall in Dublin. “Azoiţei played with a fluid melodic sensibility and sparkling technique” wrote The Washington Post, commenting on his Washington DC debut at the Terrace Theatre of Kennedy Center, in December 2009.
In 2001, Remus Azoiţei was appointed violin professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, at the time becoming the youngest ever violin professor in the history of the institution. He is the Artistic Director of the Enescu Society in London, also being one of its founding members.
Remus Azoiţei plays a Niccolo Gagliano violin made in 1755.
Eduard Stan has developed a successful artistic duo partnership with violinist Remus Azoiţei over more than fifteen years. Together, they have recorded the complete works for violin and piano by George Enescu, an authoritative world premiere project which attracted highly praising reviews. Launched by Hänssler Classic on 2 CDs in 2007/08, this collection is part of a series of critically acclaimed solo CDs recorded by Eduard for the same label, with a repertoire ranging from Bach to Debussy. Thus, Eduard Stan is characterized by the reviewer as “a fine intellectual performer, with a reflecting but also well justified musical interpretation, at times reminding of the best moments of a great musician such as Wilhelm Kempff." Eduard Stan has appeared at the Massenet, Lille Pianos and Piano à Riom festivals in France, the Menuhin Festival in London, the Julita Festival in Sweden, the Enescu Festival in Romania, the Mid-Europe Festival in the Czech Republic, the Hohenloher Kultursommer and Brunswick Classix in Germany, the Hirzenberg and the Ceresio Estate Lugano festivals in Switzerland, the Royal Piano Festival in Cracow, the Galway Schumann Festival in Ireland and the Bourglinster Festival in Luxemburg.
Eduard Stan was the founder and artistic director of the 2005 Enescu-Festival in Heidelberg/Mannheim. For his merits while promoting Romanian culture abroad, he has been awarded the Prometheus Prize 2009.
