In Praise of Shadows: new European lighting design

In Praise of Shadows, organised by EUNIC London - a network of European Cultural Centres, with the support of the European Comission in London, marks the initial phasing-out of low-efficiency light bulbs. The project is curated by Jane Withers and includes works by 20 European designers who bring imaginative thinking to the potential of low energy lighting. It's an opportunity not just to change a bulb but change the way we think about light and darkness.

Romanian Cultural Institute presents the Ice Age Chair by designer Radu Comsa.

The Ice Age Chair is not a proper chair, but a super soft hideout for any common chair. Light diffuses through the fibre around the chair's shape and the chair itself disappears, reading as a negative image like a chair frozen in layers of old ice.

Radu Comsa is a Romanian designer based in Bucharest. Winner of the Designboom 100% Folding Chair Competition in 2003, he exhibited at the 100% Design 2004, Milano Design Week 2008 and various national design exhibitions and fairs. Featured in Frame Magazine, Architectural Digest, New York Arts Magazine, Interior World, Arhitectura.

In Praise of Shadows is part of London Design Festival.
