The Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv has the pleasure to announce the presentation of the documentary My Beautiful Dacia (written and directed by Ștefan Constantinescu and Julio Soto) at Holon Cinematheque, on Thursday, December 13th, 2012, 8:30 p.m., as a related event of the exhibition „Common Roots. Design Map of Central Europe”, at the Holon Design Museum. The film will be introduced by Galit Gaon, chief curator of the museum.
The film is presenting an iconic object of the communist times, the Dacia car, a relevant item for the history of the design in the 1945-1989 period exemplified at the exhibition in Holon through various objects produced in that era, as well as in the texts of the catalogue.
„My Beautiful Dacia is a light hearted and humoristic portrayal of the evolution of Romania from Communism to Capitalism, seen through the eyes of its most emblematic symbol, the Dacia automobile. In our film, we will follow different generations of Romanians – from the old nostalgic to the young entrepreneurs – showing the present transformation of Romanian society. The connecting point between the different stories is always the Dacia car: first, a symbol of the ambitions of Communist technology and now a reflection of the new global economy. In 1999, Dacia was bought by Renault and nowadays it’s a best-selling car in developing markets.” (http://www.stefan-constantinescu.com/index.php?/works/my-beautiful-dacia/)

Until now, the documentary was broadcasted by several European televisions: TV3 Catalunya, Channel 4 (UK), SVT (Sweden), MDR-ARTE (Germany), TVR (Romania),YLE (Finland), TVS (Slovenia), RSI (Swiss), Planéte.
