Romanian artists at the Open Days of RCI Tel Aviv and Fresh Paint Art Fair, May 30 – June 3 2019

Romanian art collective Apparatus 22 will participate at the Open Days event taking place in the period May 31 – June 2, 2019 at the exhibition space of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv, as well as at the Fresh Paint Contemporary Art Fair at Ganei Hataarucha in Tel Aviv, between May 30 – June 3.

The walk-in installation “Subtitles” is especially created by the artists for Gallery Weekend and Open Days event in the RCI Tel Aviv exhibition space, celebrating 15 years since the establishment of the institute in Israel. Apparatus 22 - Subtitles (W) - Apparatus 22 imagines SUPRAINFINIT as a celebration of l’Avenir, the most exhilarating of all possible futures, as Derrida put it, a world-making attempt in which hope becomes a critical tool. For the installation at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv, the collective will summon the imaginary universe in order to reflect upon the idea of work in the future.

Enlightened as it is, SUPRAINFINIT is no stranger to bureaucracy; endless hazy departments, distinct benevolent sections and hierarchies with corporate style manuals regulating communication, all of them functioning as fictitious tools for Apparatus 22 to shape a Utopian place - post-religious-orders-as-we-know-them, post-drugs, post-chronological, post-capital - for empowering thoughts on identity, economy, politics, spirituality.

The walk-in installation will make use of the office space at ICR Tel Aviv while intensively metamorphosing it. Visitors could guess that in a work-environment from a Utopian future, a meeting or maybe a seminar or, why not, a brainstorming has just taken place. The debate has ended, leaving behind hints of the participants’ thoughts of post-work society.

The main event of the Open Days series at RCI Tel Aviv will take place Friday, May 31, at 11:00, with the participation of the artists and at the exhibition space (8 Shaul Hamelech Blvd., 6th floor, Tel Aviv).

Also, Apparatus 22 will be presenting at the International Main Exhibition at Fresh Paint the installation Hand tools (E), (M), (D). For molding deep convictions at Ganei Hataarucha – expo halls 11,12,13 in Tel Aviv, during 30.05-03.06.2019.

Apparatus 22 - “HAND TOOLS (E), (M), (D) FOR MOLDING DEEP CONVICTIONS” is part of a group of works unfolding a ritual space to engage with essential problems of imagining a radical new body in a faraway future; in this case the rite is about the hardships of adapting personal beliefs to a new reality of a superhuman body.

SUPRAINFINIT (Hymn I) is the first product of the Department of Hymns in SUPRAINFINIT Utopian universe; a mysterious incantation uttered in a deep, hoarse and melancholic voice summons a triumphant “beyond”, so impossibly luminous that doubts could arise as to its existence.

Apparatus 22 is a trans-disciplinary art collective founded in January 2011 by current members Erika Olea, Maria Farcas, Dragos Olea together with Ioana Nemes (1979 - 2011) in Bucharest, Romania. Beginning with 2015 they are working between Brussels and Bucharest. They see themselves as a collective of dreamers, researchers, poetic activists and (failed) futurologists interested in exploring the intricate relationships between economy, politics, gender studies, social movements, religion and fashion in order to understand contemporary society. A recent topic of research and reflection in the practice of Apparatus 22 is SUPRAINFINIT universe: a world-making attempt to use hope critically in navigating present and future. In their very diverse works - installations, performances, text based-shapes, reality is mixed with fiction and storytelling and all merge with a critical approach drawing knowledge & experience from design, sociology, literature and economics.
