The Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv is hosting, between November 7- December 16, 2016, the photography exhibition "Point of view" by Aviva Baharav.
The exhibition includes 18 photographic works, through which ordinary forms and objects become seas of moving shapes, giving daily life a dimension of mystery and changing the way people perceive their surroundings. Context changes one's perception and seemingly insignificant objects, like raw materials, become alluring when Baharav imbues their nuances with a cadenced beauty.
The exhibition is open to the public Monday - Thursday 10:00 - 16:00 hrs at Romanian Cultural Institute, Tel Aviv, 8 Shaul Hamelech blvd., 6th floor.
"Each of us lives in a world where our 'reality' is totally subjective and unique. This reality invites us to endless choices of personal renditions and interpretations, while raising doubts as to whether what we saw at first sight is actually right. The analogy is to some sort of a game, where viewers are invited to see their own individual and unique truth in the artwork. And everyone's truth is different.
My work involves my unique perspectives, and then conveying these, by association, in a visual photographic message that encompasses time and motion. I choose images that allow another rhythm and association, different to the original photographic imagery.
The materials I use for my work include ordinary basic objects from everyday nature and life: building and packaging materials, gardens and more. The objects' form and material content fascinate me and in turn, become my "paintbrush".
In my work the creativity and rhythmic composition are already apparent in the unprocessed photograph; they stem from the contrasts in the various balances of the material, colors and light. I sometimes achieve this in a segmented photograph, and sometimes by using one fragment of a particular object, and then doing a computerized reconstruction, taking care to create a new and harmonious order."
