The story is set in Romania in the early 60s. A truck arrives in a remote mountain village with an important mission: to bring a Soviet propaganda film to this rural community untouched by modern technology. Young, fired-up agitator Tavi is eager to go above and beyond the call of duty but is held back by the local population's simplemindedness and a series of unfortunate coincidences. While seeking to pin an alleged sabotage attempt on a feebleminded cow herder and an addled mayor, a girl enters the scene whose physical charms make it clear to him that man is just a creature bound to biological needs. Humorous hyperbole and magnificent shots of the softly lit Transylvanian countryside carry the audience through to the story's unforeseen ending.
