The Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv invites you to a lecture by dr. Ladislau Gyémánt, Dean of the Faculty of European Studies of Babeş-Bolyai University and Director of the "Dr. Moshe Carmilly" Institute for Hebrew and Jewish History in Cluj-Napoca.
The lecture will focus on the history, importance and current system of higher education in the field of Jewish Studies in Romania, domain of study whose significance is emphasized by the history of the Romanian Jews. The event is open to anybody with professional or scholarly interest in the topic and will take place on June 8, 2009, at 6 pm, at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv (8 Shaul Hamelech Blvd., 6th floor).
The lecture and following discussions will be held in English.
On the occasion of the lecture, an information point will be arranged in the main hall of the Institute, providing information on study opportunities at the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, as well as in other universities and colleges in Romania.
The lecture given by dr. Ladislau Gyémánt is occasioned by the professor's presence in Israel, as he is due to receive an excellency award from the part of the „Haim and Sara Ianculovici Foundation" in Haifa, whose president is prof. dr. Izu Eibschitz.
The prize awarding ceremony will take place on June 9, at 4.30 pm, in the festivities hall of the Haifa municipality building.
Since 1977, the prizes are awarded anually by the Foundation, whose objective is the discovery, recognition and encouragement of Hebrew and Romanian language intellectuals of Romanian origin, who have demonstrated an important contribution to the development of culture, arts and sciences.
Former receipients of the awards include Moshe Idel, Mendi Rodan, Angelica Rozeanu, Dan Mizrahi, Nicolae Cajal, Andrei Marga, Lucian Raicu, Andrei Oişteanu, Zigu Ornea and more.
