The Embassy of Romania in the United Kingdom and the Romanian Cultural Institute in London will launch, in 1 Belgrave Square SW1X 8PH, the Romanian Library, a new joint project of the two institutions dedicated to the Romanian community living in the UK, and it benefits of the generous support of Mr George Iacobescu, chief executive of Canary Wharf Group.
The event will take place in the presence of His Excellency, Dr Ion Jinga, the Ambassador of Romania in the UK and of the Director of RCI-London, Dorian Branea, having as guests three Romanian novelists and a poet: Daniel Banulescu, author of Who Won the World War of Religions?, Filip and Matei Florian, authors of The Baiut Alley Lads and Ioan Es Pop, author of No Way Out of Hadesburg and other Poems.
Actress Cristina Catalina will read excerpts from the above books. The evening will conclude with a Romanian ethno-jazz concert by Monooka Band.
The Romanian Library houses over 1,000 volumes in Romanian and English of fiction and non-fiction, art albums, dictionaries, textbooks for learning the Romanian language, guidebooks and children's books. Most of these books were kindly donated by the Romanian publishing houses which took part in the London Book Fair last April and the rest of them were offered by the Embassy of Romania in London. The Library's catalogue includes also the first eight books translated by the University of Plymouth Press.
On November 19, 2010, the Romanian authors will be present in Plymouth to launch their books under the programme "20 Romanian authors", during the Romanian Festival in Plymouth.
The Romanian Library is open Mon to Fri, from 10am to 5pm.
