Call for applications for the „Residences for Trainee Translators” Scholarships to be held in 2025

The Romanian Cultural Institute is launching a call for applications to offer in 2025 five scholarships for translators-in-training residencies. We invite interested translators to submit their application files until the 25^th of February, 16:00 h, Romanian time at the email address bursarezidente@icr.ro.

The residency program aims to train a new generation of translators of Romanian literature in as many foreign languages as possible, as well as a closer collaboration with professional translators. In this regard, the selected candidates are offered the opportunity to spend a period in Romania that will allow them to get to know Romanian literature and the environment that defines it firsthand. The selection of files is made by an independent commission of specialists (university professors of foreign languages), based on the received application files.

5 (five) scholarships of 2.000 Euro/person/scholarship are awarded, ensuring for the scholarship holders a number of three courses per week, with mandatory attendance, with invited specialists in three important fields that the five scholarship holders will attend on duration of the internship: Introduction to the Romanian language - notions of grammar and syntax; Introduction to Romanian literature and translation seminars. This program has in mind the provision of accommodation for the five scholarship holders for the entire duration of the internship within the Palatele Brâncovenești complex in Mogoșoaia, as well as the provision of transport for courses between Mogoșoaia - Bucharest and round-trip transfer from the airport to Mogoșoaia.

Duration of scholarships: 6 weeks

Granted amounts: 2.000 euro/scholarship

Documents required for enrolment (the scholarship application file):

a) enrolment form;

b) CV, containing, as the case may be: participation in colloquiums, seminars, conferences, congresses, communications; published works, completed or ongoing projects; other data considered useful by the applicant;

c) copy of the ID document/passport;

d) copies of academic diplomas;

e) letter of intent/work project;

f) two letters of recommendation;

g) affidavit stating that all the documents sent are in accordance with the original.

CALENDAR

Publication of the announcement – January 28^th, 2025;

Deadline for submission of files – February 25^th, 2025, 16:00 h, Romanian time;

Display of results – March 11^th 2025;

Submission of appeals – 12 – 13^th of March 2025, 16:00 h - Romanian time;

Resolution of appeals and display of results – March 20^th 2025;

Display of final results – March 20^th 2025;

Signing of contracts: March 21^th – April 04^th 2025.
