Art Fridays: Studio Conversations with Zoiţa Delia Călinescu

Zoiţa Delia Călinescu (b. 1978) is a Romanian visual artist and founder of the artistic community STUP. For her, art is essentially self-knowledge, which makes research and experimentation with various mediums central to the artistic practice. Zoița likes to describe herself as a multidisciplinary artist with a hundred faces hence her creativity is expressed through painting, digital photography, installations, looping videos, performance, and contemporary drawing. These various artistic interests and stylistic directions are however linked by a red thread as her visual discourse is always a means to question the social meaning of human life.

During the pandemic, feeling trapped and limited, Zoița gave up working in the confinement of the STUDIO space. Under the urge to expand artistically and find new meanings, she found a new one: the forest. She is now focusing on the relationship between humans and nature, trying to establish, through her art, new norms of healthy co-existence with the fauna and flora.
