If you have missed our exhibition at the Thames Festival last weekend there is still chance to see it! Authentic village artefacts: peasant costumes with fine embroidery, hand-carved antique dowry chests, jewelries, mirrors and hand-painted furniture by Aurelia Pomponiu in an exhibition that goes to the roots of Romanian traditions and culture.
The exhibition shows beautiful objects and - equally important - reveals much about the Romanian history, says Mrs Pomponiu. The constant feature of these pieces are raw materials and working technique. They are individualized by forms, colour and decoration creating a wide range of stylized decorative motifs inspired from nature.
Aurelia Pomponiu is passionate about restoring pieces of old furniture. Together with students Cristina Calinciuc and George Pomponiu, she has organized exhibitions and workshops on wood painting at festivals in USA, Japan and Europe.
The exhibition is accompanied by Romanian traditional music by Virtuozii Gorjului.
Supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London.
When: 15 - 19 September 2008, 9.00 - 5.00 pm Where: Romanian Cultural Institute, 1 Belgrave Square, London, SW1X 8PH Admission: free.
