Romanian playwright Maria Manolescu was selected by the Royal Court Theatre to join this year's International Residency programme.

Ever since 1956 the Royal Court Theatre, one of Europe's leading theatres, has presented a programme of new and innovative drama that has become known throughout the world. The International Residency is a unique opportunity for Romanian theatre professionals to meet and work with leading British playwrights, directors and performers. Previous programme participants include today's award-winner playwrights Peca Stefan, Gianina Carbunariu, Andreea Valean.

During her residency Maria Manolescu will do creative writing and also develop the text for a new play. Her recent plays are With a Little Help from My Friends and Sado-Maso Blues Bar. The latter has been staged in Bucharest and has been highly acclaimed by both the public and critics.

The Romanian Cultural Institute in London supports Maria Manolescu's residency at the Royal Court - with more theatre projects to come!
