Following a successful residency at the Romanian Cultural Institute in 2007, artist Aneli Munteanu returns to London for her first UK solo show at Seven Seven Gallery.
Fear: A Survey of Bed Linen explores concepts of fear and safety. Observational drawings of beds, drawn at a 1:1 scale, initially provide the viewer with comfortable and familiar feelings of safety evoking the warmth still preserved in the sheets from a recently abandoned bed. At the same time the tangled and unmade beds hint at restlessness and nightmares. Archetypal beds in all their modern avatars are depicted, implying that no one is excluded from these universal anxieties. As Kafka said My fear... is my substance, and probably the best part of me.
