"Love, the Romanian Way"

In February, a month dedicated to love, we offered the Chinese audience a glimpse into how Romanians celebrate love. Thus, on February 23, 2023, between 6:00 PM and 9:30 PM, at the Galaxy SOHO Beijing headquarters, we celebrated the "Love, the Romanian Way". This event was designed to illustrate an ancient Romanian celebration called Dragobete, in a space receptive to emotion, rhythm, and cultural dialogue.

The event included the screening of the film "Love Stories on the Move" directed by Carina-Gabriela Dașoveanu, and the photography exhibition "Emotions on the Street" by the award-winning professional photographer Denis Malciu.

Denis Malciu, whose works have been featured repeatedly in the Chinese media, brought his latest exhibition "Emotions in the Street" to Beijing. In his works, the artist captures the feeling of love among Romanians, expressed in the most transparent spaces of society: the streets, means of transportation, markets, and the centers or outskirts of Romanian cities. The exhibition comprises 56 photographs and aims to look beyond conventional, masked attitudes and expressions, revealing the inner, pure part of the emotions of daily life in Romania. "I believe that both people and everyday life events offer us a wide range of subjects; sometimes, I see something special in them, something different that deserves to be 'saved' for the world and shared with others." – Denis Malciu

The "Emotions in the Street" exhibition was presented by the author through a recorded video message, subtitled in English and Chinese. The exhibition consists of 56 photographs in the format of 42x70 cm and will be open at the ICR Beijing headquarters until March 30.

Building on the success of the UCCA Summer Breeze Festival in 2022, we screened the film "Love Stories on the Move" at the ICR Beijing headquarters in Galaxy SOHO as part of the thematic exhibition. After the film screening, director Carina-Gabriela Dașoveanu engaged in a live conversation with the audience through the online platform "Zoom," discussing the motivation and message of the film and answering questions from the spectators.

"Love Stories on the Move" presents the story of a couple - Lili, a 36-year-old taxi driver, and Dani, an amateur fisherman, who are trying to save their marriage. Lili's taxi rides make her witness to many love stories, entirely different from her own.

The film won the third prize in the Cinefondation section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2021, the award for the best film at the CinemaIubit Festival, Denver International Film Festival, Gopo Awards, Sundance Film Festival, and garnered thousands of comments and views on the Chinese platform Youku on New Year's Eve, as part of the UCCA Summer Breeze Festival. The cast includes: Ilinca Hărnuţ, Andi Vasluianu, Ion Arcudeanu, Cătălina Mihai, Andrei Ivan, and Alina Florescu. Director Carina-Gabriela Dașoveanu is a student at the Film Directing Department of the "I.L. Caragiale" National University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest.

This project aligns with ICR Beijing's strategy to rebuild its network of cultural partners and promote the values of Romanian culture in China.
