PRO MEMORIA. Art exhibition by Marilena Murariu, at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv. 24.10.2013-14.02.2014

Between the 24th of October 2013 and the 14th of February 2014, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv is hosting the exhibition “PRO MEMORIA”, showing artworks by Marilena Murariu.
The pastels are interpretations of the images depicted on Jewish tombstones from North Moldavia and of the naive Judaica from Romania. The exhibition includes also several poetry writings linked to the theme of this exhibition, by Romanian born Jewish authors: Benjamin Fondane, Ilarie Voronca, Paul Celan, Alfred Kittner and Rose Auslander.
Some of the works exhibited have previously been presented in Israel, in 2002, at the Bible Museum in Tel Aviv, in an event organized in collaboration with the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv. The present exhibition represents a continuation of the “Pro Memoria” project, showcasing recent works on this subject by Marilena Murariu.
„The special meaning of the exhibition PRO MEMORIA transcendes the personal artistic gesture and becomes a gesture of cultural solidarity with the Jewish people, struck, in the 20th Century, by so many tragedies.” (Marilena Murariu)
The exhibition is open to the public Monday to Thursday, 10:00 – 15:00 hrs., at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv, 8 Shaul Hamelech Blvd., 6th Floor.
