Carmen Dobre graduated in 2008 from the National University of Arts in Bucharest, Department of Photography and Video Art. Her primary field of research is the human body as a vehicle of social and cultural values in relationship with notions of geographic location, globalization, class structure, civic paradigms, economics, and politics.
As artist-in-residence at the Romanian Cultural Institute, she will develop a stereoscopic photography project called The World as My Background. The project aims to explore spatial and psychological tensions between the so-called 'protagonist' of the image and the 'background' components.
