Our popular “Enescu Concerts” Series continues in March with a gala recital by violinist and harpist Clara Garde, together with pianist Marie-Bénédicte Cohu. The two are renowned for ”their natural playing, their beautiful sound and their technical mastery” (Les Affiches de Grenoble) and will perform an extraordinary tribute to the genius of Enescu and his teacher Fauré.

Born in a musical family, Clara Garde spontaneously showed an interest for the violin, and quickly got noticed by the Soloist Marie-Annick Nicolas. She entered the prestigious Royal Academy of Music of London, to study with Lydia Mordkovitch and Remus Azoiței, and obtained her Bachelor Degree with First class Honors, in 2017. Currently at the Royal College of Music studying with Maciej Rakowski for her Artist Diploma, Clara takes every opportunity to perform across London and France. She recently performed at the Versailles Palace for the Heritage Day, and as a soloist at the Ambronay Festival, as she is part of the Jaroussky Academy “Young Talents” promotion 2018-2019, giving her many occasions to perform in famous festivals in France. During her studies in London, she took part in various artistic activities: chamber music, festivals, summer academy, recordings, educational workshops, and performed in several masterclass with Maxim Vengerov, Vasko Vassilev and Olivier Charlier. She also performed in numerous orchestral projects in the first violin section, conducted by Semyon Bychkov, Trevor Pinnock, Edward Gardner, Sir Marc Elder, Bernard Haitink and Rafael Payare. She received the Second Prize at the North International Music Competition and won the European Soloist Competition, which gave her the opportunity to perform as a Soloist with the Rousse Philharmonic Orchestra (Bulgaria) conducted by Lóránt Bozsodi. Furthermore, Clara is also a private tutor and prepares for ABRSM exams. She is very thankful to be a RCM Scholar, as well as being awarded from the Stephen Bell Charitable Trust in London, helping to support her studies.
Clara is currently playing on a French Audinot violin, made by Bernardel in Paris, dated 1895.
Marie-Bénédicte COHU studied at the «Ecole Normale de Musique» in Paris and obtained two «Licences de Concert» in piano and chamber music. She worked with Bruno Rigutto and joined the «Haute Ecole de Musique» in Genova and obtained a First Prize of virtuosity in chamber music. Marie-Bénédicte is passionated by chamber music and played in numerous concerts in France, United Kingdom, United States, Switzerland, going from the sonata repertoire to the sextuor. She has also recorded CDs of the great piano repertoire involving Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Schumann, Brahms, Prokoviev, Scriabine, Rachmaninov, Debussy, Ravel and Duboscq, which was the world premiere recorded CD of his piano work. Since 2013, she has created the ensemble Accord Parfait which gives the opportunity to young musicians to perform in recitals in wonderful venues around France. It enables musicians to work together the repertoire of sonatas and piano trios. A CD will be released in summer 2020.
