The Transylvania Trust, in collaboration with the Institute of Historic Building Conservation – IHBC (United Kingdom) will organise again this summer an international program in built heritage conservation training, which is addressed towards undergraduate students in Architecture, Structural Engineering, Landscape Architecture, History of Art and other interested persons. The course can also be attended by construction craftsmen who seek to specialise in the restoration of historical buildings.
During the two weeks course, the participants will have the opportunity to learn the theoretical principles and methodology of built heritage restoration from qualified lecturers from the United Kingdom and Romania, and to participate actively at the restoration of the Bánffy Castle. The emphasis of the course will be on direct "hands-on" learning.
At the end of the module the participants will receive a certificate of participation.
Two days are dedicated for the theoretical training. The lectures of the professors invited from abroad will be translated simultaneously to Romanian, Hungarian and English.
The annually organised workshops are: rendering, including mural decorations, stonemasonry, including sculpture restoration, carpentry and joinery and old furniture restoration.
The dates for this year’s training modules are:
- 18 July – 1 August 2015
- 8 – 22 August 2015
Workshops:
- Consolidation and rendering, including mural decorations (fresco, secco, sgraffito, stucco)
- Carpentry
- Joinery and old furniture restoration
- Stonemasonry, including sculpture restoration.

So far more than 1500 participants from 25 countries (Romania, Albania, Australia, Brazil, Belgium, France, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, etc.) participated.
