Internal Relations Department will continue its activities following from its stated objectives:
• Opening towards different cultures of the world and enhancing their reception in Romania;
• Intensifying dialogue and cooperation of Romanian cultural and scientific personalities and communities with partners from Europe and the Americas;
• Shaping the mentality of young people encouraging the respect towards Romanian and universal cultural values and the national cultural traditions and heritage;
• Foreseeing recent demographical, economic and social changes and aligning cultural programs organized in Romania to the expectations of their public.
In order to reach these objectives, Internal Relations Department will continue and develop its partnerships with other public and private institutions with the aim to support culture in general and Romanian culture in particular. We encourage cooperation with organizations from Romania or from abroad having among its objectives organizing artistic events of high quality, with international participation, such as film, theatre and music festivals.
Among the institutions the department seeks to further its partnership are: the Goethe Institute, the French Institute, New Europe College, Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes in Romania, Metropolis Film, NexT Cultural Foundation, The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Delegation of the European Commission in Bucharest, etc.
The Department of Internal Relations will also propose new partnerships with the same aim with institutions having already expressed their interest to work together with the Romanian Cultural Institute, e.g. Bucharest Art University, Faculty of Letters at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Bucharest, Center for Research in Culture of the Ministry of Culture, Religious Affairs and National Heritage, Association for Industrial Archeology.
A special attention will be paid to the strong cooperation with other institutions and organizations with similar objectives and activities, fostering an interdisciplinary approach. Public debates will begin with lectures, keynote speeches or presentations of sociological and anthropological secondary analyses, based on existing opinion polls, focus-groups, interviews or explorations focusing on these specific topics. The exhibitions will be intended to recover, as much as possible, existing but not sufficiently exploited information. We will discuss data collected according to specific historical, architectural, urbanistic, anthropological and social approaches which can be complemented by film projections, photography, exposed objects, etc.
Our partnerships will aim at delivering regular programs such as conference series, debates, meetings meant to maintain our existing public and enlarging our target audience towards other potencial urban consumers of cultural and academic events. Our inquisitive public could then compile into a what we could call an „active and mindful civil society”, mostly disregarded these times. We propose ourselves to offer an open space for meeting and dialogue encouraging public expression of ideas and attitudes meant to promote or reaffirm theories from various human sciences and sometimes even from natural sciences. Now, when even cultural consumers spend most of their spare time watching TV or reading, these debates would represent a good opportunity for getting involved even for the small „silent majority” interested not only in broadcast talk-shows.
To be more specific, the monthly conference „Let’s meet (again) at RCI” is dedicated to personalities of Romanian origins living abroad or those living in Romania but whose work is mostly known and appriciated abroad. In other words, this project values and promotes the cultural ambassadors of Romania. Another series of events is meant to direct the attention of the public towards arhitecture, urbanism and industrial archeology. The RCI intends to organize regular meetings with arhitects, civil engineers, sociologists, civic designers to discuss rehabilitation possibilities of arhitectural heritage edifices which fell victims of developmental verve of post-revolution.
The Internal Relations Department also intends to organize notable events and international conferences with high academic value, inviting artists, academics, journalists, political scientists, opinion leaders, guests from all over the globe, specialists from the West and especially from East Central European countries. The aim is to exchange ideas and practices with people having similar experiences from the past, this constituting a strong basis for future projects that may provide a truthful, diverse and interesting image on Romanian culture and science.
We will continue to hold the Summer Courses in Romanian Language, Culture and Civilization in Braşov to which we invite people who would like to learn more about Romania. The courses are organized in partnership with the Faculty of Letters at the University Transylvania from Braşov, Casa Mureşenilor Museum, Corona Local Initiative Association and the Library of Braşov County. To complement this project, we organize for the first time the Romanian Language Classes for Foreigners – Romania(n) in a Nutshell in Bucharest. The permanent cooperation and support going to the Romanian Lectorates abroad represents an important part of our activities as well.
As a conclusion, the International Relations Department develops several types of activities:
• Organizing regular public events with „RCI benchmark” in order to maintain its existing public and attracting new ones;
• Organizing public events in partnership with other institutions;
• Organizing major events, international conferences, summer schools;
• Adopting an interdisciplinary approach in order to assure animated events with high impact.
